Getting Started with Acre Access Control

A straightforward guide to keeping your property secure and running smoothly.

Introduction to Your Access Control System

Welcome to your new access control system, installed and supported by Beacon Services. This system is designed to keep your facility secure while making day-to-day management as simple as possible.

Whether you are granting access to a new slip holder, remotely opening a gate for a vendor, or setting up automated schedules for your bathhouse, this guide will help you understand the basics and point you exactly where you need to go.

1. How the Hardware Works

You don't need to be an IT expert to understand your new hardware. It is broken down into three simple parts:

  • The Brain (Controllers): These are the smart boxes securely located near your gates. They hold all the rules about who is allowed in and when. Because they store this information locally, your gates will continue to work normally even if the marina experiences a temporary internet outage.

  • The Scanner (Readers): This is the physical device on the wall or gate where users present their credentials (like a FOB or phone).

  • The Muscle (Electronic Locks): The physical locking mechanism on the gate or door that releases when a valid credential is scanned.

2. How People Get In (Credentials)

Your staff and slip holders will primarily use two methods to open gates and doors:

  • Physical FOBs: Traditional key tags that are tapped against the scanner.

  • MyPass Mobile App: An app that turns a smartphone into a key. Apple/iOS devices use Bluetooth, while Android devices use NFC (the same technology used for tap-to-pay). Note: Users must allow the app to use Bluetooth/NFC in their phone settings for this to work.
